After you enter the password, you will be able to access all the contents of the file. To access the folder, you will have to double-click on it, and then you will be prompted to enter the password you set. You will also need the password to have access to the folder. You will only be able to access the folder if you are logged into your account.

Once done, click on OK, and close all the Windows.

Ensure you copy the password and note it down somewhere, so you don’t forget it.

If using special characters is allowed in the passwords, then you should use that as well. Also, make sure your password is alpha-numeric.

Make sure your password has an upper case as well as a lower case letter included.

Ensure you choose a password with at least ten characters.

You will have to create your encryption certificate, which will include the key to access the encrypted folder, and you will have to export it to the USB drive you have inserted.

Next, insert the USB flash drive on your computer.

However, it would not work in Windows 8 - even when I tried to run it in Compatibility Mode. Note: LocK-A-FoLdeR is no longer supported, but I was able to successfully use it in Windows 7. To unlock a folder, launch LocK-A-FoLdeR, type in your password, and click Unlock selected Folder. There’s also a Rescue Centre, in case locked folders don’t show up in the list and which could probably be used after reinstalling the operating system. To lock a folder, and choose the folder(s) you want to lock and Exit out of it. The folder is now locked, and doesn’t show up in file managers - not even if you have them set to show hidden and system files. You can change it afterwards, but you’ll need the master password in order to choose a new one. You’ll be asked to choose a Master Password - choose wisely. Once the installation is done, run the software. Make sure you get the latest version, depending on whether your running the 32 or 64-bit version of Windows. First, download and install Lock-A-Folder, from here. I’ts called Lock-A-Folder which, although no longer supported, is simple and effective.
